Now there’s even more reasons why you should incorporate the habit of eating more fruits and vegetables into your meal plan!

  • Researchers from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health analysed the data of 88,301 women from the Nurses’ Health Study and 93,844 women from the Nurses’ Health Study II.

  • They discovered that subjects who consumed over 5.5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day were at a lower risk (11%) of developing breast cancer compared to those who consumed 2.5 servings or less. (1 serving = 1/2 cup of chopped or cooked fruits, 1/2 cup of raw or cooked vegetables, or 1 cup of raw leafy vegetables.)

  • In particular, cruciferous vegetables (e.g. broccoli) and yellow and orange vegetables were found to be significantly associated with decreased breast cancer risk.

  • Greater fruit and vegetable intake was particularly associated with reduced risk of more aggressive tumors like HER2-enriched, ER-negative and basal-like tumors.

How fruits and vegetables lower your breast cancer risk?

Researchers concluded that the antioxidants and other micronutrients found in fruits and vegetables may help decrease your risk of developing breast cancer.
