Why DO I Have Blurred and Cloudy Vision?

A cataract is a condition in which the clear lens of the eyes becomes cloudy, preventing sufficient light rays from entering the eyes and impairing vision. Age is the most common reason for developing cataracts. The development of cataract is also associated with a positive family history (if a family or relative has cataract before), an unhealthy lifestyle (such as smoking and heavy alcohol intake) and prolonged exposure to sunlight or radiation. Cataracts can cause eyes to be easily irritated, and can lead to decrease in visual acuity, with blurry and double vision.

Feed Your Eyes

In various studies and clinical trials, antioxidant vitamins such as vitamins A, C and E can help maintain healthy cells and tissues in the eyes. These vitamins are found in fruits and vegetables such as oranges, tomatoes, kale and spinach. Two key protective antioxidants are lutein and zeaxanthin, which also help to protect against macular degeneration and free radical damage. Omega 3 fatty acids are essential for nerve conduction in the retina. For healthy eyes, eat a good and balanced diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, with oily fish like salmon, sardine or mackerel.

DHA For Brain Development

During the last trimester of pregnancy and first two years of life, the brain undergoes rapid growth. At this stage, the brain requires sufficient nutrients especially DHA for the development of sensory, perceptual, cognitive, and motor skills. Fetuses and infants receive DHA from their mothers through the placenta and breast milk. Mothers should ensure sufficient DHA level through DHA-rich fishes that are free from heavy metals and pollutants, and high DHA supplements. Infant fed with formula milk should ingest milk that has DHA oil added to it to aid brain development.

Help Your Brain To Stay Hydrated

Every cell in your body needs water to thrive, and your brain cells are no exception; in fact, about three-quarters of your brain is made of water. An Ohio University study found that people whose bodies were well hydrated scored significantly better on tests of brainpower, compared with those who were not drinking enough.

Drink Green Tea For Healthy Teeth And Gums

Green tea contains phytochemicals called Catechins that can fight inflammation and control bacterial infections. A Japanese study found that people who drink green tea regularly have less occurrence of periodontal disease, as compared to infrequent tea drinkers.

Why Should You Use Dental Floss?

To have good oral health, it is not enough to brush your teeth twice a day, you need to floss at least once a day too. By flossing daily, plaque is removed from the areas between your teeth where your toothbrush cannot reach. This is important because plaque that is not removed by brushing and flossing can eventually harden into tartar. In addition, people who are wearing braces or have big interdental gaps can use a special interdental toothbrush for a more effective cleansing effect.

Easy Steps For Dandruff Prevention

Dandruff happens due to the faster turnover of skin cells on our scalp. It is more prevalent among people with imbalanced oil level (oil or dry scalp) and is common among men. People who have dandruff should wash their hair frequently with a natural shampoo while incorporating a massage to stimulate blood circulation and loosen the dandruff flakes.

Healthy Diet For Healthy Hair

Nuts supply zinc which promotes stronger hair and stimulates healthy hair growth. Do not forget the greens, as they are loaded with Vitamin A to relieve itching and scalp dryness and Vitamin C which may retard hair loss. Also, whole grains are rich in silicon which prevents brittle hairs. Vitamin Bs from meat and mushrooms can help delay the onset of gray hair. Lastly, keep your diet low in unhealthy fats, as excess fats consumption leads to oily hair.  Beauty starts within, so begins with a healthy natural diet for healthy hair!

High Heels & Foot Pain!

Research shows that women who wear high heels have shorter muscle fibres and thicker and stiffer Achilles’ tendons. In the long run, this limits the motions of the ankle and heels-wearer will find it painful to walk in flat-soled shoes. The occasional swapping between flat-soled shoes and high heels will help to keep your tendons stretched and will also prevent aching feet. Also, regular stretching relieves the tensed muscle fibers. It is important to choose your shoes wisely. Platform shoes are often better than stilettos, and always opt for shoes with a snug fit.

Caffeine During Pregnancy

An excess caffeine intake may lead to low birth weight and miscarriage. Caffeine may affect a baby’s growth as it can constrict blood vessels and limit the nutrient that are supplies to baby. Also, caffeine inhibits iron absorption. The low iron stores at the fetal stage leads to a higher risk of iron deficiency during infant development. Yet, pregnant mothers need not avoid caffeine totally. The American Dietetic Association suggests 300mg daily (equals to 3 cups of coffee) as the upper limit of caffeine intake for pregnant women. Other sources of Caffeine include tea, soda, chocolates and energy drink!

Laugh Your Way To Better Health!

Boost Immune Health With Agaricus Mushroom

The Agaricus Blazei Murill (more commonly known as Brazilian mushrooms) contains the highest level of Beta-Glucans. Beta-Glucans stimulate various aspects of the immune system by the increasing activity levels of immune cells such as macrophages and T-cells that are first to fight bad bacteria and viruses. Effective Natural Relief For Constipation

Constipation can happen because the colon absorbs too much water or is sluggish. Insufficient fiber intake is the likely cause in most cases. Soluble fiber from oats, rice bran, and fruit will help to soften stools for easy elimination. Whole grains, cereals, seeds, and the skin of most fruits and vegetables provide insoluble fibers that help the stool pass quickly through the intestines. To meet your daily fiber needs, aim for at least 2 servings of fruit and 3 cups of vegetables/ legumes. Also, drink at least 8 glasses of water to aid regular bowel movement.

Miso- A Super Healthy Soup!

Miso soup helps your body to get rid of harmful radioactive waste. A compound known as Dipicolinic Acid attaches itself to heavy metals and radioactive strontium and carries them out of the body. During the 1945 atomic bombing of Nagasaki in Japan, clinic workers drank miso soup regularly, which may have helped them to avoid severe symptoms of radiation.  Cooking tips: Never boil miso as the boiling process will destroy its nutrients. Instead, add miso paste to your soup after it has been removed from direct heat.

Watch the caffeine

A moderate caffeine intake boosts metabolism and elevates moods. Long term effects of caffeine however, can cause heart palpitations, hypertension and insomnia. It is best to keep your daily caffeine intake to less than 400mg. One serving of espresso (1 oz.) has 40mg of caffeine. A cup of brewed coffee (8 oz.) contains up to 133mg of caffeine. Decaf coffee has less than 5mg of caffeine. Energy drinks and soft drinks are high in caffeine too - Red Bull (12 oz) has about 80mg of caffeine while a diet Pepsi has 36mg!

Liver-Friendly Diet

Firstly, watch your alcohol intake. Processing alcohol stresses your liver significantly. Keeping your liver from toxic chemicals relaxes it and maintains its optimal function. And also, keep yourself away from greasy fatty foods. Saturated fats are harder to process, such as sausages, bacon, hot dogs, and high fat dairy products. Limit the intake of processed food like white rice, biscuits, cakes, pastries, donuts and candy. Fresh fruits and vegetables are good source of enzymes, fibers, vitamins, phyto-nutrients, that help optimize liver functions.
