Feed Your Eyes

In various studies and clinical trials, antioxidant vitamins such as vitamins A, C and E can help maintain healthy cells and tissues in the eyes. These vitamins are found in fruits and vegetables such as oranges, tomatoes, kale and spinach. Two key protective antioxidants are lutein and zeaxanthin, which also help to protect against macular degeneration and free radical damage. Omega 3 fatty acids are essential for nerve conduction in the retina. For healthy eyes, eat a good and balanced diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, with oily fish like salmon, sardine or mackerel.

Avocados are fruit from Persea americana, a tall evergreen tree that can grow up to 65 feet in height. Avocados are rich in nutrients such as Vitamin E, C, K, Bs, fiber and potassium. Researchers suggests that foods rich in vitamin E—including avocado, whole grain, seed, nuts as well as dark green leafy vegetables are associated with a lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia that cause the death of brain cells which lead to memory loss and cognitive decline.

Keep Your Toothbrush Clean

Keeping your toothbrush clean is vital for your oral health. Always rinse your toothbrush with water after using it. Store your toothbrush in an upright position and allow it to air-dry until the next use. Do not routinely cover toothbrushes or store them in closed containers, as it  encourages the growth of bacteria. It is also important to replace your toothbrush approximately every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed.  You may also opt for toothbrushes with anti-bacterial bristles to prevent bacteria growth on the brushhead.

An Apple A Day, Keep Your Teeth Healthy

Do you know that chewing on an apple helps to scrub your teeth?  Apples have a high concentration of Malic acid which helps to increase the flow of saliva. This in turn cleans your teeth and removes stains. Apples are also rich in fiber, Vitamins B and C, Potassium, Calcium and Zinc which are vital to maintain general health.

Spa For Your Scalp At Home

To boost healthy hair growth, sufficient nutrient supply is highly important. Massage promotes circulation to the scalp, ensuring that nutrients are channelled to the hair follicles, which increases the rate and quality of hair. As little as 5 minutes of massage will be helpful in strengthening your hair. Gentlely massage your hair after applying your hair care products- this will enhance the absorption of products into scalp layers, allowing the product to work better.

Does Regular Trimming Promote Hair Growth?

Having a haircut has no effect on the rate of hair growth. Whether you get a hair trim or not, hair grows at the rate of one inch per month. The only proven factors that affect the rate of hair growth are genetics, hormones, and diet. However, it is important to note that the chopping of the split ends (which impede healthy hair growth) may promote better hair growth. Still the best way to promote healthy hair growth is to reduce the likelihood of split ends by avoiding over-styling.

Minimize sunlight exposure.

Overexposure to harmful UV rays can cause up to 20% more collagen loss in skin. Always ensure you have sun protection and stay out of the sun from 10am to 4pm, when the rays are the most intense. According to Environmental Working Group in UK, there are currently no sunscreens that meet their safety levels. Common sunscreen contains Vitamin A (retinol/ retinyl palmitate) which may increase the risk of cancer or disrupt hormonal balance. Choose sunscreen without these harmful chemicals. For added protection, wear a hat and cover up.

Protect your skin from the sunlight

Nothing ages the skin faster than overexposure to sunlight which may cause skin dryness, freckles, wrinkles and even skin cancer. Hence, it is important to wear sunscreen and avoid sun exposure from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to protect your skin from overexposure and minimize sun damage. The American Association of Dermatology recommends applying sunscreen daily with a minimum SPF 15 to all exposed areas, and then re-apply every two hours. Consider taking an internal sunscreen, such as high quality FloraGlo Lutein and Astaxanthin to maintain healthy skin from the inside out.
